What is Exfoliating?

Our skin sheds billions of skin cells daily. Our body helps us out by exfoliating for us. Cell turnover, another term for exfoliation, is the process by which our skin produces new skin cells, which travel from the lowest layer of the epidermis to the top layer and then shed off the skin. Essentially, this naturally occurring process is is what keeps dead cells from building up on the skin’s top surface.

But...

But if it doesn't shed properly or if the shedding slows down, your skin can become dry and dull. As a result, you may suffer from clogged pores and develop acne, blemishes and an uneven skin tone.

Buffering away dry, dead skin cells, excess oils, and residue reveals smoother, younger-looking skin. Exfoliation gives your body's natural skin cell shedding a boost and reveals the fresh healthy skin cells underneath.

What is the Dame Glowing Skin Method?

The Dame Glowing Skin Method, which produces what is known in LA as the Dame Glow, changes the focus of skin care. The Dame Method uses controlled inflammation to refresh your skin. Exfoliation creates controlled injury. Gentle exfoliation sends a message to the dermis that repair should begin and fresh cells are needed, expediting the turnover of cells in your epidermis. Controlled, repetitive, mechanical stimulation reaches deeper than the epidermis to improve the appearance of your skin. Exfoliation ultimately stimulates the body's mechanism for rebuilding collagen, the key to restoring your skin.

The Dame Method relies upon the anatomy of the skin to oxygenate itself and to build up growth factor, collagen, hyaluronic acid, and other youth promoting elements that otherwise diminish with age.

4 Steps? I'm a busy Dame, do I really need every step to see results?

Being a Dame is a privilege, but it's also a lifestyle.

It's overwhelming to think about going from zero to sixty ( or 4 steps) so quickly. Most Dames can't realistically manage a full Korean 10- step skincare routine every single day. And some days you will only do 3 Steps.

You will be working your way up to using a number of products that will help to restore your glow depending on the day and what your skin needs.

It's all about consistency. Just like a lover, our body loves when we show it love and believe in it. Just like working out. You're going to put in the time because with time you will see results. Most of our Dames noticeably feel results within three days. More advance transformation takes three months.

To be successful with the Dame Glowing Skin Method, you have to grow to understand your skin, which changes all of the time and will respond to treatment differently from day to day .The weather, your mood, the varying levels of stress in your life, how much wine you had for dinner, your mother #genesmatter, and countless other factors affect your metabolism and the amount of oxygen that circulates to your skin.

Perfect skin doesn't exist. Neither does the perfect body. The path to healthy glowing skin is a journey. We are here to support you along.

Our focus is on reducing inflammation in the skin + eliminating the source of irritating toxins.

What is a Body Scrub?

A body scrub is a mechanical exfoliator used after cleansing to polish and moisturize your skin, leaving it soft, smooth, and smelling amazing. A body scrub is made with an abrasive material -- usually sea salt or sugar -- mixed with active ingredients, a blend of nourishing carrier oils, and an aromatic like essential oils.

Are Dame Body Scrubs Salt or Sugar Based?

Dame Body Scrubs are Himalayan salt based. Salt has antiseptic properties, cleansing the skin by removing dirt and killing bacteria. Along with a combination of dried fruit powders, herbs, seeds and other exfoliants to provide a more thorough exfoliation and skin benefits.

If my skin naturally exfoliates, why do I have to do it too?

Unfortunately, this process does slow down as we age. If you want a better idea of just how slow cell turnover becomes, it starts off at 14 days when we’re infants and grows to 21–28 days as teenagers, 28–42 days at middle age, and 42–84 days over 50 years of age. This becomes why it's important for incorporating a topical exfoliant into our beauty routines, especially as we enter our 20s to maintain bouncy, soft, smooth skin.

I heard I shouldn't exfoliate often?

There is a misconception that exfoliating must solely be manual or abrasive to skin, roughing it up to remove the dead cells. Remember that the process can be done gently through natural chemicals like white willow bark and fruit enzymes.

One of the best ways to protect your skin is to use products designed for their  specific purpose, be it for face or body. The skin on our bodies is thicker than that of our face. Hence, oil type, exfoliant size, and ph level are different for our face and body.

We aren't trying to scrub the melanin off of you, rather "polish" or buff away dead skin and clear out your pores.

Over time, harsh exfoliation will only weaken the skin’s barrier function and lead to more inflammation. If the barrier function is damaged, skin becomes vulnerable to infection from microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungus, and leads to sensitivity and irritation.

Our exfoliants are ran through a grinder to create a super fine powder. Making it easy to avoid micro tears and skin irritation.

How many days week should I exfoliate?

The Dame Glowing Skin Method begins with gently exfoliating the body everyday and the face 2-3 times per week, before gradually increasing until your skin can tolerate it daily (about after three months).

This kind of treatment enables deeper penetration, allowing your other skin care products to work faster, for soft, healthy, even skin. We suggest using your Korean Exfoliating Mitt with your Dame Soap Bar on your body during your AM shower, followed with your Dame Body Scrub so your skin is moisturized throughout the day. Saves you time.

Exfoliate your Face at night as your skin repairs and regenerates itself while you sleep.

Are Dame Body products vegan?

All products are vegan with the exception of our Manuka Honey Facial Care Collection. It contains ethically sourced New Zealand +24 Manuka Honey and organic raw honey with bee pollen and royal jelly. Honey powder can also be found in our Raw Amber + Vanilla Bean Body Scrub and as a Build Your Own Scrub exfoliant.

Why are most of your products oil-based?

When water is introduced to skin care products, they can easily grow mold and bacteria. Therefore, commercial products contain a wide spectrum of preservatives to give them a longer shelf life.

Are your products organic?

We source only certified organic, organic or wild harvested ingredients. We hand pick, dehydrate, and grind most of our exfoliants in house. It is our labor of love, but we love the process and quality control. 70% of our raw materials are locally sourced from local gardeners, print shops, and small businesses.

Are your products made with natural ingredients?

The ingredients we incorporate into our products all serve specific purposes. We research their properties thoroughly when formulating our blends to provide you with effective results. We offer 100% natural products, which are either unscented or scented with essential oils, and 97% natural products, which are scented with high-quality fragrance oils. We believe in being completely honest about the naturalness of our products, and we will never lie about the ingredients or processes used in creating our products.

Our products are formulated without the use of chemical parabens, added fillers, artificial colors, and artificial preservatives. Our skin is our largest organ and it absorbs everything we use on it.

Are your sugars, butters, salts and oils unrefined?

We only use the best high quality organic or wild harvested raw materials whenever possible in all of our products. Refining ingredients cause them to lose all nutrients and minerals. Therefore, all of our ingredients are completely unrefined and contain all of their naturally potent benefits!

Are your products safe for kids?

Since Dame Body products do not contain any synthetic chemicals, parabens, sulfates or harsh detergents, artificial fragences or colors, phthalates, Dame Body Butters and Scrubs are safe for kids to use.

Do you test on animals?

No, we do not test on animals.  We use all food grade ingredients that do not require animal testing. Our blends are formulated with your tastes for luxe skincare and health in mind.

How long will my products last?

Our Manuka Honey Face Scrub has to be stored in a fridge to extend lifespan. Products have an estimated 6-month shelf life. Dame Body does not use any water or preservatives in our products. Please store products in a cool, dry place to protect the natural ingredients inside. We package our products in Glass Jars and Bottles. Our packaging protects the ingredients, potency and naturalness of the products, ensuring they arrive to you with exceptional quality. Our Jar Trade In Program enables us to reduce our carbon footprint and recycle.

Why have my products changed consistency?

Our products are formulated in Los Angeles, CA. There is a small chance, that when shipped during warmer months, the consistency may change in the heat.  If your butter melts a little, place it in your refrigerator for 10 minutes and it will become hard again and ready for use.
